Reyansh's First Year
Dear Reyanshu,
Wish you a very very happy birthday and a happy new year from mamma and papa. I wanted to talk to you about 2013 and what a blessings you have been for all of us in our lives. You have now completed one full year of your life and all I can say you have been the best baby ever and everything we could have asked from God. This year started off with you being just 2 months in January and we recognizing your face in your first two months. Neeru mummy was here with us, taking care of you, kissing you and talking to you every day. You were such a small cute little thing who used to sleep all day in your small little bassinet. Your mamma was still recovering, but she just would not let you off her eyes even for 1 second. The news of your birth had already spread to all nook and corner of the world, and every day was a blessing for us, as we saw you slowly moving your eyes, arms and legs. We used to talk about you a lot, we'll sit on our recliner rock you to sleep, sooth you when you cry. It has been an eventful year for all of you and I will try to sum it down.
The first big part of the year we'll call it as FIRST GRAND TRAVEL. In March when you were just 3.5 months, you made your first voyage across the globe to visit our home country India. Jitu mama was getting married and he would have no other way, but to have you in his wedding. He even delayed his wedding to have you with him. We carried you in your big Car Seat with us, where we could keep you safe and comfy. People just loved it. They would treat you like Lord Krishna in his jhoola and every one gave loads of blessings to you. Whoever saw you the first time fell in love with you. I remember when we first went home and I gave you to badi mummy she was so moved. You are her first great grandson. After watching you every day on Skype, when she finally held you she was like "oh he is so small. On computer he looks so big" and we all burst laughing. You travelled to Gwalior with your mamma and mamu on train. This was the first time when you were away from me. Mummy tells me you pooped all over your clothes. They ended up seating at the wrong seats and it was all a big mess. She ended up crying for you, for making you go through this tough travel. But all was well when you reached Mummy's old home in Gwalior. You got your own bed and room. People were barred to enter the room without permission. Anyone found disturbing your sleep had to feel the wrath of your mamma. She was mean :)
We got an amazing dress for you with pagdi, you sat on the horse with Jitu mama and you greeted Divya Mami the first time she came home. If everything new has to happen Reyanshu has to do it. I remember during baraat time Nikhil chachu and Neeru mummy had you with them. Nikhil chachu spent 3 hours sitting in car holding you in his arm. You were sleeping all this while. During all the ceremonies Nikhil chachu will take the role Reyanshu’s Guardian. He will sit with you, carry you, feed you, and put you to sleep in his arms. He would just look at you with awe and keep smiling. It was a small trip, we came back to US, only to go back again for Nitin Chachu’s wedding in May again. You got sick for the first time when we came back and had some fever and cold. We blame it to the Cold Flight AC. Whatever it was it made your mamma very sad.
Not much changed in two months, but we knew you were getting big enough to outgrow the flight bassinets we were getting. You crossed the globe again, flying over Europe and Asia we reached back India promise to not to leave Delhi this time and taking more care of you. Nitin Chacha wedding was so much blast. We boys got matching clothes. You and me were always matching, occasionally mamma too. You were still in your sleeping cycles but surely turning into stronger and cuter baby. Everyone loved your long hairs rock star look. Bhoomika chachi calls you Reyu Rock star. Another special thing happened; you got to eat your first food. We had small ceremony at home, everyone in our family from Didi, Mamaji, Maasi were there to feed you your first real food. Gavinder Panditji did your "Annprashan" Ceremony and we fed you honey, fruits, sweets. You didn't like it and started crying. But mamma papa was there to hold you all this while. 2013 Summer was just getting started for us.
Once back from India we got your Poonam Nanny back to take care of you. ‘Khattu’ is what she used to call you. I use to call her your ‘Dai Maa’. I think you were too little to remember her, but she was again someone who loved you a lot. She would run around you whole day. When mamma was busy working in the other room, she would take care of everything you need. Lot of memories, pictures are attached to her like the first time you laughed, first time you crawled, first time you walked, she was there. But we had to say bye to her cause your Nana-papa, Naani-Maa were coming to Americaaaaaa!!!!
By the way in between we also took a vacation trip to Virginia Beach and Outer banks with Vaibhav uncle and family. Rehoboth Beach was a good vacation too. So Nana-papa, Naani-Maa finally got their visa. It is some story how they got it, but they say because you really wanted them to be here, you had your hand in getting them the visa.
Winter had started, and we all waited for your Jitu mamu and Divya mami to come to US from Australia. While we waited for them, you on the other hand continued to grow naughty every day. You would pick up new thing to do every day and surprise us. All the child protection in the house are broken, kitchen wall where we had put a small door has a big hole in it now, all drawers and kitchen cabinets wear broken locks. Kitchen happened to be your favorite place, because mummy and Nanni-maa are always there. You will not hesitate to even the heaviest thing in the kitchen cabinet or run into the bathroom as soon as the door opens. Kind of tough to handle you but you would always always amaze us by your cutest naughty looks. October has set in you don't crawl anymore; I think you hardly crawled for a month and it was just to stand on your feet when you were only 9 months old. Nanna - papa, Naani- maa can't get enough of your laughter and talking. While me and mamma, we stand and only feel proud and happy seeing you grows. We had a small Halloween Party for you at home and dressed you up as a cutest bunny that Neeru Mummy got from India when you were born. We got you bunny ears, bow and a tail and tadaa... there you were. November is our favorite time of the year. Both me and mamma just love the holiday season and you make it more special because it’s your birthday. FIRST BIRTHDAY, oh what a proud moment it is for all of us. We hosted a small party for you and theme was Animal Kingdom. We had a big Jungle theme cake, wall hangings, photo booth. Mamma went a long way to prepare for it and look absolutely beautiful on that day. No one else but she is the happiest person on this day. We had our friends come in to meet you, shower you with gifts and wishes. You thank them all by being a good boy and running all around Minerva Party hall.
We danced and said good bye to everyone. Jitu mama and Divya Maami joined us in DEC. Now what happened after this I call it as TRIP OF OUR LIVES. We travelled all the way from home to Orlando, Miami, Key West and back in just 8 days. Papa drove 2500 miles and your car passed 10,000 miles. It was so much fun on the road. We went to Universal Studios, Island of adventure and Magical Kingdom. Your first trip to the happiest place on Earth. I am sure we are going to go back again and again, but we got you a souvenir to remember your first visit.
Your favorite foods are – banana, peas, gold fish and butter-parathi. You also like eating cheese cubes but only from mamma’s salad and like to eat with her fork too like a big boy. Though you really trouble us at times with your milk time and food time but mamma can still keep a lot of patience to make sure you are fed well. Few words that you know really well and will act on it a second are Sit, Put it back, Bubye, Flying Kisses, jai- jai, hi-fi, dancey-dancey. You love to talk on phone and iPad and we enjoy watching you do your actions. Your favourite lullaby is - Chanda hai tu mera suraj hai tu, lakdi ki khathi and Halwa wala aa gaya.
We wrapped up New Year eve by kissing you good night and wishing you happy New Year. But this year was more than just this. As your mamma and papa adjusted to be parents to this awesome baby, we learned lot of things.
Mummy is working on one of the biggest project of her life. Her work kept her awake night after night, days were long but she didn’t miss a single beat to take care of her precious child. She has pretty much given you everything she had in her. She got great accolades from her work and won "best performer of the year" award as well. She’s the best and she wants you to know that if you love something you will get it done, be how tough the road you can touch new heights if you dedicate yourself to it just like she did. She has set lot of goals for 2014; you are still the number 1 priority for her. You have only made her look more beautiful every day and she is proud to share you with the world.
Papa had an easy year, but I did do one thing for you. I ran my first full marathon and a half-marathon. I wanted to dedicate this run to you and mamma. She supported me all the while, taking care of you when I am out practice or busy with other things. But all the while I wanted to remind you that nothing is impossible. No matter how big the task is, if you put consistent effort and practice to it, you can win it in the end.
I am almost done, but in the last here are your 2014 resolutions.
(Yes, we will make your resolutions every year till you are 30!!!)
1. Potty Training
2. Go to Day Care
3. Learn to speak
4. Learn to play and make new friends
